Snoring is no good

[...]
Generally speaking, the structures involved are the uvula and soft palate. The irregular airflow is caused by a passageway blockage and usually due to one of the following:
  • Throat weakness, causing the throat to close during sleep
  • Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in the muscles
  • Fat gathering in and around the throat
  • Obstruction in the nasal passageway
  • The tissues at the top of airways touching each other causing vibrations
  • Relaxants such as alcohol or drugs relaxing throat muscles
  • Sleeping on one's back, which may result in the tongue dropping to the back of the mouth.
  • Enlarged tonsils[...]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snore
If you are able to eliminate the things above, the snoring should cease. I remember I recorded my dad's snore on tape and then played it loudly when he fell asleep on the couch the next time. It only made it worse for me. He, however, looked like a huge baby which needed to be held and soothed. Just gross.
At one point, he even received death threats for making those horrible noises from a colleague who would hold a knife against his throat. See how dangerous this nasty habit really is; it can take your life!
